Irish drama series The Walsh Sisters is heading to American streaming platforms after Roku’s subscription service Howdy acquired exclusive US rights to the RTÉ production, RTÉ reported. Adapted from the bestselling novels by Marian Keyes, the first season is scheduled to premiere on November 5, with new episodes releasing weekly on the platform.
Roku Howdy Secures US Streaming Rights
The acquisition brings the Dublin-set family drama across the Atlantic following its broadcast success in Ireland, where it captured the Audience Choice Award at the 2026 RTS Ireland Awards. Written for television by Stefanie Preissner, the narrative follows five sisters as they deal with complex family bonds, relationships, addiction, and heartbreak. Robin Chacko, vice-president of Howdy, described the programme as a premium drama featuring real heart and humor that has already resonated strongly with readers of Keyes’ source material.
Louisa Harland Leads the Ensemble Cast
The ensemble cast features Louisa Harland as Anna, Caroline Menton as Rachel, Danielle Galligan as Claire, Máiréad Tyers as Helen, and series adapter Stefanie Preissner as Maggie. Veteran actors Aidan Quinn and Carrie Crowley round out the main cast as the sisters’ parents. Production is handled by Cuba Pictures and Metropolitan Pictures for RTÉ, in association with the BBC and Screen Ireland, with international distribution managed by Cineflix Rights.
Second Series Draws Inspiration from Marian Keyes Novels
The acquisition deal also encompasses a second series, which is currently in production and expected to launch in the United States in 2027 to coincide with its Irish and UK release window. The upcoming six-part installment draws inspiration from Marian Keyes’ novels The Mystery of Mercy Close and Angels, introducing new personal and family challenges for the sisters. Preissner returns as the creative lead and writer, while additions to the cast include Peter Coonan, Aislín McGuckin, Art Campion, and Fay Ripley. An exact transmission date for the second series in Ireland has not yet been announced.
