CD Projekt’s Hadar Project: A Fresh IP Takes Shape

CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077, is actively developing a new, original intellectual property (IP) codenamed Hadar. While details remain scarce, recent updates indicate the project is progressing beyond conceptualization and entering the prototyping phase.

Foundation of a New World

Announced in 2022, Hadar represents CD Projekt’s first venture into creating a franchise entirely from scratch. According to Michał Nowakowski, CD Projekt joint CEO, the team has established the foundational elements of this new IP. “Work on the project is progressing dynamically, and the team has established the foundation of this entirely new IP,” Nowakowski stated during an investor presentation. This includes clearly defined distinguishing features and key pillars intended to support not only the initial game but potentially future products within the same universe.

Prototyping and Unreal Engine Integration

Currently, the development team is focused on designing specific game elements and creating multiple prototypes. These prototypes are being directly implemented into Unreal Engine, allowing for live testing and verification of mechanics and gameplay. This iterative process aims to refine the game’s core functionality and ensure a compelling player experience.

Team Expansion and Project Scale

As of February 2026, a team of 26 individuals is dedicated to the Hadar project. This represents a focused effort within CD Projekt Red, which likewise continues development on The Witcher series and Cyberpunk 2077. The overall CD Projekt Red staff has grown to 499, an increase of nearly 50 people since October of the previous year.

Future Outlook

While CD Projekt Red remains tight-lipped about the specifics of Hadar, the project’s advancement to the prototyping stage signals significant progress. The company’s commitment to establishing a strong foundation and utilizing Unreal Engine suggests a long-term vision for this new IP. Further updates are anticipated as the project continues to evolve.
