The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered surpassed its previous all-time peak on Steam within hours of its September 29, 2026 release, reaching 120,975 concurrent players, according to SteamDB data. CD Projekt Red released the updated role-playing game across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC as a free upgrade for existing owners, driving a massive wave of players back to the franchise’s open-world setting.
Steam Concurrent Player Records Broken on Launch Day
The updated version eclipsed the game’s previous high-water mark of 103,329 simultaneous users, which was set in January 2020 following the premiere of Netflix’s first season starring Henry Cavill. The new peak was achieved on a Tuesday afternoon when many players in Europe and North America were still at work. Prior to the remaster’s launch, the game averaged around 31,959 concurrent users on Steam during the previous month. GamesRadar reported that the title also secured a 94 rating on Metacritic, making it the highest-rated version of the game to date.
Expanded Features and Upgrades Drive Return Rates
CD Projekt Red did not limit the new edition to graphical adjustments. The remaster includes a rebuilt skill tree, refined combat and movement mechanics, expanded ray tracing and path tracing on PC, transmog, an enhanced photo mode, and cross-platform mod support. The package bundles the base game with both original expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. On PC, initial issues with AMD graphics cards were resolved via a driver update issued shortly after launch.
Future Content and Context for the Franchise
CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory plan to release a new major expansion titled Songs of the Past in 2027, which will send Geralt into the new region of Letten. With millions of players retaining access to the game via the free upgrade model across PC, GOG, Battle.net, and current-gen consoles, the developer’s ongoing support has breathed new life into an eleven-year-old title ahead of next year’s content additions.
