They Might Be Giants Release New Single “Outside Brain” and Announce Spring Tour

They Might Be Giants have released their new single, “Outside Brain,” a preview of their upcoming album, The World Is to Dig, set to arrive on April 14th. The band will also embark on “The Bigger Reveal Tour” beginning April 17th.

“Outside Brain” Explores Themes of Mania and Panic

Vocalist John Flansburgh described “Outside Brain” as being about “mania and panic,” and explained that the song focuses on the feelings of those emotions rather than a specific narrative. He shared that he aimed to capture “that nightmare fear of being chased or running away from something.” Ghettoblaster Magazine reports Flansburgh also noted the song’s claustrophobic sense is thanks to drummer Marty Beller’s relentless beat and that the track draws inspiration from the 1960s garage band, The Bobby Fuller Four.

The World Is to Dig and Tour Dates

The World Is to Dig is They Might Be Giants’ first full-length album since 2021’s Grammy-nominated BOOK. The album will be available in all formats via TMBGshop.com and on streaming services. An exclusive 180-gram vinyl variant will be available at independent record stores on April 17th.

“The Bigger Show Tour” kicks off April 17th with multi-night stands in Brooklyn, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, and Woodstock. Tickets are currently on sale, with multi-night passes and hotel deals available in select cities.
