Production is underway on the second season of the critically acclaimed drama series This City is Ours, with Sky and WOW scheduling its premiere for late 2026. Developed and written by Stephen Butchard and produced by Left Bank Pictures, the eight-part series follows its first-run success in 2025, which earned BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor for James Nelson-Joyce.

Cast Returns and New Additions for Season 2

James Nelson-Joyce returns as Michael Kavanagh, according to production details from Left Bank Pictures. Nelson-Joyce recently won Best Breakthrough Talent at the RTS North West Awards 2025 for his performance in the opening season. Also returning are Hannah Onslow as Diana Williams, Jack McMullen as Jamie Phelan, Mike Noble as Banksey, Julie Graham as Elaine Phelan, and Saoirse-Monica Jackson as Cheryl Crawford, alongside Adam Abbou, Laura Aikman, Kevin Harvey, Bobby Schofield, and Darci Shaw.

New additions joining the cast include Shaun Evans, known for Until I Kill You, who takes on the role of Ozzie Thompson, a former gangster recently released from prison. Álvaro Morte, recognized for Haus des Geldes, joins as Felipe Guzman, a member of the Colombian cartel and the younger brother of Ricardo, who was killed at the end of the first season.

Plot Direction and Liverpool and Spain Locations

The narrative of the second season picks up immediately after the events of the season one finale, according to official production synopses. Michael and Diana arrive in Spain only to find themselves pulled back into the unfolding crisis surrounding Ricardo’s death. Back in Liverpool, conflict intensifies among the remaining gang members while a released gangster from Ronnie’s era demands financial compensation from the organization.

Filming for the eight 60-minute episodes took place in and around Liverpool as well as on location in Spain. Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, commissioned the series for the BBC, where it will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer. Sony Pictures Television handles international distribution for the project.

Production Team and Creative Leadership

Stephen Butchard serves as creator and lead writer, with an additional episode written by Robbie O’Neill. Saul Dibb returns as lead director, joined by directors John Hayes and Chris Baugh. Andy Harries, Rebecca Hodgson, and Sian McWilliams executive produce for Left Bank Pictures alongside Stephen Butchard, Saul Dibb, and Jo McClellan for the BBC. Simon Maloney produces the series, and Nathan Juckes acts as producer for the second production block.
