Actors Téa Leoni and Tim Daly are reuniting on screen, joining forces for the NBC comedy pilot Newlyweds. According to reporting from Deadline and The Wrap, the real-life couple married in July 2025 and are now slated to play an on-screen pair in a project currently in contention for the 2026–27 television season.

Plot Details and Production Team

The half-hour comedy centers on a later-in-life romance between two distinct personalities, according to official NBC loglines reported by The Wrap. The story follows Jeanie, a free-spirited woman played by Leoni, and Tony, a buttoned-up professor played by Daly, who marry on impulse after a whirlwind courtship.

The character dynamic kicks off when a recently divorced Tony accidentally runs into Jeanie at a valet stand. According to character descriptions provided to The Wrap, Tony is so captivated by her beauty and spirit that they immediately go to dinner. He soon realizes his life with Jeanie will not follow the quiet, stay-at-home routine he prefers, but he chooses to change his ways rather than live without her.

The pilot is created by writer and executive producer Gail Lerner, with Pam Fryman attached to direct the episode. Academy Award winner Jamie Lee Curtis serves as an executive producer alongside Eric Tannenbaum, Kim Tannenbaum, Scott Schwartz, and Lionsgate Television. The production hails from Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.

Background and Prior Collaborations

Leoni and Daly first met on the set of Madam Secretary, the CBS drama series that ran for six seasons from 2014 to 2019, where they similarly played a married couple. Their relationship transitioned off-screen, culminating in their wedding in July 2025.

Both actors bring extensive television and film credits to the new NBC pilot:

  • Tim Daly: Best known for his starring role in the NBC comedy series Wings, Daly has also appeared in the television adaptation of The Fugitive and the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff Private Practice. He currently holds a recurring role on the Netflix comedy Leanne. In 2027, he earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for playing a compulsive gambler on HBO’s The Sopranos, as reported by The Wrap.
  • Téa Leoni: Since wrapping her six-season run on Madam Secretary in 2019, Leoni has starred in the feature films Death of a Unicorn and Bird Boy. She also appeared in a recurring role on Hulu’s mystery-comedy series Only Murders in the Building, according to The Wrap.

Television Season Timeline

Newlyweds is one of three comedy pilots currently in contention at NBC for a spot on the 2026–27 broadcast schedule, according to The Wrap. The network has not yet announced a final pickup decision or premiere date for the project, which marks Leoni’s return to network television comedy alongside her husband.
