Verge Appointed as LSU’s New Athletic Director

Verge has been named the new Athletic Director at Louisiana State University, marking a significant milestone in his career and for the university’s athletics program.

This appointment comes after more than three decades of service to LSU, during which Verge has held various key roles within the athletics department, including positions in academics, fundraising, corporate relations, marketing, game management, sport administration, life skills, sports medicine and performance, equipment, and alumni relations.

Prior to this promotion, Verge served in a dual role as Executive Deputy Athletic Director and Executive Director of External Relations, where he assisted the Office of the President in external and governmental relations.

His involvement extends beyond the university, as he has participated in numerous NCAA and SEC committees and has volunteered or been associated with local, civic, and Louisiana state boards.

In recognition of his contributions, Verge was honored as the LSU National L Club Distinguished Alumnus of the Year in 2018.

As a former student-athlete, Verge excelled in football, basketball, and track and field events, earning All-State football honors that secured him a four-year scholarship to LSU. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1990, a Master of Education in 1992, and a Specialist in Higher Education Administration in 2004.

During his playing career as a linebacker for the LSU Tigers from 1986 to 1990, he was a four-year letterwinner, a two-year defensive captain, and a member of two SEC Championship teams, participating in four consecutive bowl games.

Verge’s parents, both career-long educators, instilled in him the values of faith, love, respect, hard work, academic achievement, and integrity, which have guided his professional and personal life.

His appointment is seen as a continuation of strong leadership within LSU athletics, bringing deep institutional knowledge and a proven track record to the role of Athletic Director.
