Tjisse van der Vinne changes fitness approach after drastic weight loss
Fitness enthusiast Tjisse van der Vinne has overhauled his approach to health and weight management after years of extreme dieting and fluctuating body mass, Men’s Health reported. The 24-year-old now maintains a weight of roughly 77 kilograms at a height of 1.87 meters, focusing on long-term sustainability rather than rapid physical transformation.
Van der Vinne began strength training at age 16 weighing 95 kilograms without a structured plan for nutrition or exercise. Two years later, he connected with a coaching company through a friend and initiated a steep weight-loss phase that dropped him to 70.6 kilograms. His primary driver during this period was acquiring a visible six-pack. He restricted his intake to approximately 1,700 calories per day, prompting concern from people in his social circle about his health. I knew it wasn’t the healthiest way, but I felt fine. That’s why I wanted to continue until I had a six-pack,
van der Vinne said.
Weight Fluctuations and Bulk Phases
Following his initial weight loss, van der Vinne attempted to add mass, climbing to roughly 85 kilograms while increasing his consumption of snacks and high-sugar products. Seeking better control, he hired a new coach to pursue a gradual reduction to 75 kilograms, though he reported feeling unusually light at that weight.
A subsequent bulk phase pushed him from 72 kilograms back up to 85 kilograms. While the cycle yielded unwanted fat gain alongside muscle, it provided practical lessons regarding caloric adjustments. He eventually settled near his current weight of 77 kilograms, prioritizing how he feels and whether his habits are maintainable over scale numbers.
Prioritizing Balance Over Extreme Definition
Van der Vinne’s current routine integrates consistent strength training and nutritious eating alongside flexibility for social events and holidays. He avoids rigid dietary restrictions, allowing for alcohol, snacks, and periods without exercise when traveling. Balance is so important. I don’t want to be busy with food all the time and deny myself everything,
he said.
His objective is to maintain his weight between 77 and 80 kilograms without recurring cycles of aggressive cutting or bulking. I don’t necessarily have to be very big or muscular. I want to feel good and be able to maintain this. I don’t want to go back to how I felt in the past,
he noted.
