Tomáš Skuhravý Faces Eight Million Crown Debt After World Cup Glory

Former Czechoslovakia striker Tomáš Skuhravý is facing severe financial distress with debts reaching eight million Czech korunas, equivalent to nearly €330,000, Pravda reported. Once earning a million korunas a month following his transfer from Sparta Praha to Italian club Genoa in 1990, the football veteran now lives in a motel in Uherské Hradiště with a blocked bank account.

Skuhravý scored five goals during the 1990 World Cup in Italy and netted 133 goals in Serie A. His current official employment as a sports advisor for 1. FC Slovácko yielded an average monthly income of just 22,695 korunas (€934) in 2025, with earnings dropping even lower through May of this year. Insolvency administrators and creditors have objected to this low compensation, recommending that Skuhravý seek higher-paying work, such as a marketing specialist role offering up to 40,000 korunas gross, to increase his monthly debt repayments to nearly 12,000 korunas. Slovácko has declined to respond to inquiries regarding the former player’s situation.

Lost Car Dealership Job and Health Limitations Prevent Coaching Return

In addition to his financial restructuring, Skuhravý lost a secondary position at a car dealership owned by controversial businessman and former Slovácko co-owner Pavel Buráň. That role, which involved assisting with sponsorship and charity work, paid roughly 5,000 korunas monthly and ended on August 31. Buráň provided Skuhravý with housing and a vehicle during the arrangement to help him manage his hardships.

Public inquiries often question why the fluent Italian speaker has not pursued football coaching. Skuhravý stated that knee endoprosthesis implants, which forced the end of his playing career, prevent him from taking the physical demands of a coaching job. His only prior managerial stint was a brief tenure during the winning 1905 AC Cuneo season in Italy’s third tier before that club declared bankruptcy.
