Tommaso Ciampi Designs Mini Cross Concept for Lancia
The new Lancia Ypsilon launched into a challenging market in 2024, prompting digital designer Tommaso Ciampi to publish a virtual concept that reconsiders the brand’s current commercial direction. Developed on Stellantis’s CMP and e-CMP architecture, the current generation is at the beginning of its commercial lifecycle, according to Il Giornale Digitale. Digital artist Tommaso Ciampi responded to the market shift by creating a segment-A concept called the “Mini Cross,” utilizing AI visualization tools to design a compact city car. The project includes two distinct body styles sharing the same design language. The three-door variant features a copper-pink exterior, a black roof, dark front pillars, flush door handles, and an elongated rear window. Its front fascia incorporates a horizontal slat grille with the Lancia wordmark along the upper edge, slim headlights, and a lower air intake. At the rear, the taillights form a “Y” signature connected by a thin red line beneath a black rear spoiler.
Industrial Costs Limit Three-Door Variants for Stellantis Platforms
The five-door variant of Ciampi’s concept adopts a dove-gray paint scheme and traditional door handles while retaining the same front fascia and slim headlight design. Il Giornale Digitale noted that official announcements regarding a restyling or a three-door variant do not exist. Industry constraints have largely forced manufacturers to abandon three-door B-segment body styles due to declining sales and high industrialization costs. Because the production Ypsilon shares its architecture with the Peugeot 208 and Opel Corsa, engineering a three-door variant on the Stellantis platform would require structural investments and body modifications that lack economic justification. To maintain a sleek profile on the production five-door model, the Lancia design team integrated the rear door handles into the vertical pillars.

Stellantis Portfolio Strategy and Future HF Variants
Product updates for the current production line focus on the introduction of the HF and HF Line versions, which feature unique chassis tuning and body modifications. Broader commercial success for the brand under Stellantis will depend heavily on the performance of upcoming models, including the D-segment crossover fastback known as the Gamma.
