According to an August 2026 customer ranking published by Focus Money Versicherungsprofis and conducted by Servicevalue GmbH, policyholder satisfaction in Germany’s private health insurance sector remains high, with 95 percent of full private health insurance customers rating their overall experience as good or better. The evaluation analyzed 3,200 customer judgments across 30 private health insurance companies.

Overall Satisfaction Leaders and Rankings

Overall satisfaction is measured by asking respondents to evaluate their provider using a five-point scale ranging from “ausgezeichnet” (excellent) to “schlecht” (poor), with high satisfaction defined as a company scoring above the industry average. In the latest 2026 survey, exactly 95 percent of respondents gave their insurer a rating of good or higher, matching the exact percentage recorded in the previous year’s evaluation by VersicherungsJournal. Out of those respondents, 39 percent rated their provider as excellent, while 36 percent chose very good.

Servicevalue GmbH certified very high overall satisfaction for six providers, which is two fewer than in the previous year. Huk-Coburg-Krankenversicherung AG and Arag Krankenversicherungs-AG defended their top positions, achieving the best results in the category. LVM Krankenversicherungs-AG climbed two spots to capture third place. Meanwhile, the previous year’s third-place finisher, Süddeutsche Krankenversicherung a.G. (SDK), dropped to fifth place while maintaining a very high rating. Allianz Private Krankenversicherungs-AG secured fourth place, and Barmenia Krankenversicherung AG rounded out the top tier in sixth place.

Emotional Attachment and Customer Loyalty

Beyond general satisfaction, the survey measured four specific dimensions using a four-point agreement scale: emotional attachment, repeat purchase readiness, loyalty, and willingness to recommend. For emotional attachment, tested through the statement that policyholders feel well cared for by their private insurer, 46 percent fully agreed and 42 percent tended to agree, while 12 percent rejected the statement. According to the findings, SDK, Arag, and Allianz achieved the strongest results in emotional attachment.

Customer readiness to repurchase insurance from the same provider increased slightly by one percentage point compared to the prior year. When asked if they would buy a private health policy from their current provider again at any time, 39 percent fully agreed and 44 percent tended to agree, while 17 percent expressed disagreement. Debeka Krankenversicherungsverein a.G., Allianz, and LVM demonstrated the highest customer retention readiness in this category.

Brand Loyalty and Recommendation Rates

Strict brand loyalty—measured by whether respondents consider only their current provider when thinking of private health insurance—rose by two percentage points compared to last year. Exactly 28 percent of participants fully agreed with this exclusivity statement, 44 percent tended to agree, and 28 percent disagreed. LVM and Allianz achieved the highest agreement levels for exclusive brand loyalty.

Regarding the willingness to recommend insurers to others, 32 percent of survey participants stated they would unreservedly recommend their provider, and 43 percent tended to recommend them, while 25 percent expressed negative views. LVM, Huk-Coburg, and Allianz captured the top three positions for recommendation readiness.
