Mineral Wells, Texas, is reeling from the aftermath of a tornado that struck on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, causing significant structural damage and injuries. A local state of disaster has been declared as recovery efforts begin.
Tornado Confirmed and Damage Assessment
The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado along Highway 180, approximately three miles east of Mineral Wells, at 5:10 p.m. CDT on Tuesday. According to city officials, a large area experienced structural damage, with some buildings completely destroyed. The initial damage path appeared to begin on the northeast side of the Country Club Estates community and move southeast toward the National Vietnam War Museum, covering a distance of less than three miles.
Injuries and Emergency Response
Two individuals were transported from the scene for medical treatment, and several others received on-site care for minor injuries. First responders are continuing to assess the damage and secure impacted areas to ensure public safety.
