Deadly Tornadoes Tear Through Midwest and South, Leaving Trail of Destruction

A series of devastating tornadoes swept through parts of Texas, Illinois, and Indiana late Tuesday and overnight, resulting in at least two confirmed fatalities in Indiana and widespread damage across multiple states. Forecasters are warning that the threat of severe weather, including flooding, will continue on Wednesday for tens of millions of people from Texas to Michigan.

Tornadoes Cause Widespread Damage and Fatalities

At least four tornado touchdowns were reported in eastern Illinois, according to the National Weather Service (NWS), leaving a trail of destruction stretching into Indiana. In Indiana, at least two people were killed as a result of the storms, with officials continuing to search for potential victims.

A separate tornado was reported in Taylor County, central Texas, on Tuesday, accompanied by 60 mph wind gusts and “baseball-sized” hail. States from Oklahoma to Michigan were under tornado watches as severe storms threatened to bring intense tornadoes, damaging winds, and large hail from the southern plains to the southern Great Lakes.
