Tottenham confirm £8m exit for Alejo Veliz as Bahia finalise deal
Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the departure of forward Alejo Veliz to Brazilian club Bahia in an £8 million transfer, marking the club’s fifth summer signing. The move was officially announced by Tottenham on Monday, with Bahia confirming the deal hours later.
Veliz completes move to Brazil
The Argentine winger, who joined Tottenham from River Plate in 2022 for a reported £12 million, has moved to Bahia after limited first-team opportunities under manager Ange Postecoglou. Sky Sports reported the transfer fee as £8 million, with additional variables tied to performance metrics.
Veliz, 24, made 14 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions last season, scoring one goal. His departure comes as manager Roberto De Zerbi begins reshaping the squad, with the Italian manager reportedly prioritizing younger prospects and more mobile wingers.
Transfer activity under De Zerbi
The exit of Veliz follows Tottenham’s signings of James Maddison (£55m from Leicester), Moisés Caicedo (loan), and Micky van de Ven (free). The club has also seen key players like Paulo Dybala and Ivan Perisic leave, with De Zerbi’s strategy focusing on squad rotation and financial compliance.

Football London noted that Veliz’s departure aligns with De Zerbi’s preference for “wingers with high pressing intensity,” a contrast to the more static attacking approach of his predecessor, Ange Postecoglou.
What happens next for Tottenham?
The club remains active in the transfer market, with reports suggesting interest in young forwards and defensive reinforcements. Veliz’s move frees up squad space, though Tottenham’s financial situation remains under scrutiny following recent loan deals and wage restructuring.
Bahia’s sporting director, Rafael Guerreiro, stated the club is “excited to bring a player of Veliz’s quality to Brazil,” citing his “technical ability and adaptability” as key factors in the signing.
