Towson Women’s Basketball Faces Monmouth in Crucial CAA Matchup

Towson (16-12, 9-7 CAA) secured a hard-fought 63-55 victory over Campbell on February 29th in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Tigers capitalized on 22 points off 16 Campbell turnovers and connected on 11 three-pointers, shooting 47.8% from beyond the arc. The Tigers’ bench contributed 34 points in the win.

Scouting the Hawks

Monmouth (18-10, 11-6 CAA) enters the contest with an overall record of 18-10 and a 11-6 mark in conference play. The Hawks are coming off back-to-back losses to North Carolina A&T and Hofstra. Junior guard Gigi Gamble and junior forward Divine Dibula lead Monmouth in scoring, averaging 13.7 and 13.5 points per game, respectively.

Shooting Prowess

Towson has demonstrated a strong shooting performance throughout the season, hitting at least seven three-pointers in all of their non-conference wins and holding a 12-5 record in games where they make seven or more triples. The Tigers have hit at least eight three-pointers in 13 of their 28 games this season, a significant increase from last season when they achieved this feat only twice in 32 games.

Johnston’s Milestone

Senior guard India Johnston reached a significant milestone on January 18, 2026, becoming the 20th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points. She currently ranks 11th all-time in Towson’s scoring history with 1,200 points and is just eight points away from moving into the top 10. Johnston as well boasts 170 made three-pointers, placing her fourth in program history.

Recent Honors

India Johnston was named CAA Co-Player of the Week on December 22, averaging 21.5 points on 59.3% shooting in wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Lehigh. Viki Matulevicius earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors on November 17 after a strong performance against Coppin State.

Looking Ahead

Following the game against Monmouth, both teams will prepare for the upcoming CAA Championship, scheduled to take place in Washington, D.C. From March 11-15. The outcome of Thursday’s matchup could significantly impact their seeding in the tournament.
