Toyota C-HR+ Electric Crossover: A New Era for Toyota in Europe

Toyota has begun delivering its all-new, all-electric C-HR+ crossover to the European market, marking a significant step in the brand’s expanded electric vehicle (EV) lineup. Built on the eTNGA platform, the C-HR+ aims to combine distinctive design with impressive range and dynamic performance, targeting the modern urban driver. This isn’t simply an electric version of the existing C-HR; it’s a completely new model.

Design and Dimensions

The Toyota C-HR+ retains the stylistic DNA of the C-HR but evolves it with a more modern and aerodynamic design. Its coupe SUV silhouette, characterized by a streamlined roofline and sculpted surfaces, is designed to be visually striking. The vehicle’s dimensions have increased significantly compared to the standard C-HR, with a length of 4.530 mm and a wheelbase of 2.750 mm, providing a more substantial presence on the road without feeling bulky. The height from the ground remains at 185 mm, maintaining versatility for various terrains.

The front features Toyota’s “hammerhead” design language with slim full LED headlights, while the rear boasts a horizontal design with an integrated spoiler to enhance both style and efficiency. Aerodynamic optimization is evident throughout, including faired underbody components, integrated rear handles, and optimized 18 or 20-inch wheels, contributing to a drag coefficient of 0.262.

Interior Space and Quality

The passenger compartment of the C-HR+ offers increased space compared to the hybrid C-HR, thanks to the dedicated EV platform. The 2,750 mm wheelbase translates to improved rear passenger legroom, approaching levels found in higher segment models. Despite the coupe-like roofline, headroom is well-maintained.

The trunk provides a capacity of 416 liters, with a flexible configuration and a two-level floor. Toyota emphasizes the use of eco-sustainable materials within the cabin, including synthetic leather, suede-effect inserts, and fabrics made from recycled PET, aiming for a premium feel with a focus on sustainability.

Inside, a clean, horizontal dashboard layout features a 7-inch digital instrument panel and a central 14-inch display that serves as the hub for the onboard experience. Features include 64-color ambient lighting, an optional panoramic roof, and comprehensive connectivity for rear passengers, including USB-C ports and dedicated climate controls.

Performance and Range

The C-HR+ is available with multiple powertrain options. The base front-wheel-drive version features a 57.7 kWh battery and a 165 hp electric motor, offering a WLTP range of up to 458 km. A more powerful variant with a 77 kWh battery delivers 221 hp and can travel up to 607 km—the longest range among Toyota’s electric models in Europe. A top-of-the-line, dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version produces 338 hp and has a range of up to 548 km.

The C-HR+ supports fast charging at up to 150 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 28 minutes. AC charging is available at 11 kW and 22 kW, taking 4 hours 48 minutes or 2 hours 12 minutes, respectively, for a full charge.

Driving Dynamics and Technology

The eTNGA platform provides a low center of gravity and 30% higher body rigidity compared to previous Toyota architectures. This results in precise steering, improved stability, and reduced body roll. Suspension calibration aims for a balance between comfort and dynamic handling.

The C-HR+ incorporates innovative technologies such as silicon carbide semiconductors and a heat pump, along with an intelligent energy management system, to boost efficiency. Regenerative braking is adjustable on four levels.

Connectivity and Telematics

The C-HR+ features a comprehensive connectivity suite, including a 14-inch multimedia system with cloud navigation and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. A voice assistant activated by “Hey Toyota” allows control of functions like climate, navigation, and media. The MyToyota app enables remote monitoring of charging status, programming of charging schedules, and remote control of the cabin climate.

The system as well includes dedicated navigation for EVs, suggesting charging stops along the route and updating directions in real-time. Integration with the Toyota charging ecosystem provides access to European public networks and management of home wallboxes.

Pricing and Availability

The Toyota C-HR+ range consists of three trims: C-HR+, Icon, and Premium. Pricing starts at €40,800 for the entry-level version with the 57.7 kWh battery and 167 hp front-wheel-drive powertrain. The Icon trim, with the 77 kWh battery and 224 hp, is priced at €43,800. The Premium trim, featuring all-wheel drive and a total output of 343 hp, is priced at €49,800. Promotional offers may lower the starting price to approximately €36,950, potentially further reduced by government incentives.

Toyota also offers dedicated solutions for EV ownership, including a domestic wallbox with installation and tailored financial and rental options.
