Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (CTF) Milky Revelation Trenggono sarcastically stated by the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa regarding the source of funds for the revitalization of shipyards in the country.

In a post on his official Instagram account, Wahyu Trenggono insinuated the Minister of Finance to be more understanding and intelligent regarding the current ship construction funds coming from foreign loans.

“Dear Minister of Finance, so that you understand and are intelligent, that the funds for the construction of the ship came from foreign loans from the UK (UK) government,” wrote the Minister of KKP, Tuesday (10/2).

Not reluctant, Wahyu Trenggono also insinuated Purbaya to ask his subordinates at the Ministry about the source of the funding. “Try asking your subordinates first, is it true or not that the ship’s money has been disbursed?” he added.

The post refers to Purbaya’s statement at the Revitalization of Indonesian Shipyards and Shipping which was held in Jakarta, Tuesday (10/2). He received an answer from the shipyard entrepreneurs who were present that they had not received a shipyard order from the KKP.

“How many of you have received orders from the KKP? (The audience hasn’t answered yet). It’s strange, it doesn’t make sense, I’m spending the money. Maybe you’re not active enough or what? Why hasn’t the KKP had any orders there?” said Purbaya at the event.

At that time, the Minister of Finance emphasized the importance of strengthening the national shipbuilding industry. The aim is to be able to host in one’s own country in line with the need for rejuvenation of the national ship fleet which continues to increase.

Purbaya revealed that based on the President’s direction there were around 2,491 ships more than 25 years old that needed to be replaced immediately. Then, the president asked how much should be replaced domestically?

“If I look at the condition of domestic shipyards, maybe it’s one hundredth, maybe a little more. The reason is that the price is expensive, the raw materials are expensive, they’re taxed, so if that’s the case, you can come to me, if necessary, I’ll subsidize it,” explained Purbaya.

Purbaya emphasized that subsidies will be provided if necessary, as long as ships are not purchased from abroad. “As long as he (KKP) doesn’t buy any more foreign ships, if he buys any more foreign ships, it will be my loss,” added Purbaya.

Purbaya even opens up opportunities to provide support and subsidies if necessary, to ensure that the national shipbuilding industry can develop and compete.

Previously, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said that Britain supported Indonesia’s plan to build 1,500 fishing vessels. He said the government is currently planning a large investment in Indonesia’s maritime sector.

This statement was confirmed by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Saturday (24/1) quoted from the Cabinet Secretariat’s Instagram, where Prabowo brought home several strategic achievements, one of which was an investment agreement in the maritime sector with the UK worth 4 billion pounds sterling or the equivalent of IDR 91.67 trillion.

Together with England, Indonesia agreed to build 1,582 fishing vessels which will be produced domestically and are projected to absorb a workforce of up to 600 thousand people.
