Funeral Held for Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Diego

Naples, Florida – A memorial service was held today, Saturday, February 28, 2026, at First Naples Church for Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Michael Diego, who died following a medical emergency last week. The service honored Trooper Diego’s life and dedication to service.

Public Viewing and Memorial Service Details

A public viewing began at 10:30 a.m. At First Naples Church, located at 3000 Orange Blossom Drive, Naples, Florida. The memorial service commenced at 12:00 p.m. A live stream of the service was available on the Florida Highway Patrol’s FLHSMV Website Memorial Page.

Law Enforcement Procession

Prior to the memorial service, a law enforcement procession began at approximately 8:00 a.m. From Hodges Funeral Home, located at 12777 State Road 82, Ft. Myers, FL and traveled to First Naples Church. The procession route was as follows:

  • Westbound State Road 82 to Colonial Boulevard (Left Turn)
  • Westbound Colonial Boulevard to Southbound Interstate 75 (Left Turn)
  • Southbound Interstate 75 to Immokalee Road Exit 111 (Right Turn)
  • Westbound Immokalee Road to Southbound Livingston Parkway (Left Turn)
  • Southbound Livingston Parkway to First Naples Church (Right Turn)

Authorities anticipated brief traffic delays along the procession route.

Trooper Diego’s Service and Passing

Trooper Diego suffered a medical emergency while participating in a competitive process for the Patrol’s Criminal Interdiction Unit at the FHP Training Academy. He passed away at a Tallahassee hospital. He began his career with FHP in 2021, serving in the Fort Pierce District and later the Fort Myers District.

He is survived by his mother, sister, and fiancée.

Media Access

Credentialed media were permitted to attend the service, but cameras were not authorized inside the auditorium, and no interviews were conducted. Media had designated parking and a staging area located west of the church.

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles and the Florida Highway Patrol expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support for Trooper Diego and his family during this difficult time.
