According to the National Hurricane Center, the system weakened from a hurricane into a tropical storm as it moved across the Pacific Ocean.
Storm Track and Current Intensity
The storm was located about 415 miles east-northeast of Hilo, Hawaii, with maximum sustained winds reaching 70 mph, according to the 5 p.m. HST update from the National Hurricane Center. Fausto was moving west-northwest at a speed of 16 mph. Forecasters noted that no coastal watches or warnings were in effect as the system maintained its trajectory.
“On the forecast track, Fausto should pass north of the Hawaiian Islands during the next few days,” the National Hurricane Center stated in its advisory.
Hazardous Surf Conditions
The National Hurricane Center warned that surf generated by Fausto would continue to build westward across the Hawaiian archipelago along east-facing shores through Tuesday.
