Tropical Storm Trudy Strengthens Toward Category 4 Hurricane Status Off Mexico Coast
Tropical Storm Trudy continues to strengthen off the southern coasts of Oaxaca and Guerrero, packing maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour, infobae.com reported. Forecasters track the system as it sits 560 kilometers south-southwest of Lagunas de Chacahua, Oaxaca, and 650 kilometers south of Acapulco, Guerrero. While the storm remains distant enough to pose no immediate threat to land, its wide circulation is driving heavy rainfall across southern and southeastern Mexico.

Heavy Rains and Coastal Impacts Across the Pacific Region
Heavy rainfall spans multiple states due to the tropical storm’s extensive circulation. Forecasters expect very heavy downpours ranging from 50 to 75 millimeters in eastern and southern Guerrero, alongside northern, western, and southern Oaxaca.
Chiapas, southern Veracruz, and Tabasco face rainfall totals between 25 and 50 millimeters. Additional rainfall affects regions including Michoacán, Colima, Jalisco, and the Estado de México, bringing risks of electrical storms, hail, river overflows, and localized flooding.
Coastal conditions remain hazardous. Authorities report waves reaching heights of two to three meters along the coast of Oaxaca, and one to two meters along the shores of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima, and Chiapas.
Simultaneous Threat from Hurricane Simon
While Trudy develops in the Pacific, Hurricane Simon maintains Category 2 strength on the Saffir-Simpson scale. Simon sits roughly 260 kilometers west-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, and 385 kilometers south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur.
Simon packs maximum sustained winds of 165 kilometers per hour with gusts up to 205 kilometers per hour, moving west-southwest at 6 kilometers per hour. The Servicio Meteorológico Nacional and the National Hurricane Center maintain a hurricane watch for the Islas Marías in Nayarit as Simon tracks near the coastline.
