Trump Administration Investigates Portland Schools’ Black Student Support Program
The Trump administration is investigating a voter-approved program designed to support Black students in Portland Public Schools (PPS), Oregon’s largest school district. The inquiry centers on allegations of race-based discrimination and follows a complaint filed by the conservative education advocacy group Defending Education last December.
Federal Civil Rights Investigation
The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights announced the investigation into PPS, focusing on the district’s efforts to create a new learning facility, formerly known as the Center for Black Student Excellence. Defending Education alleges the initiative features “racially discriminatory programming” that violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and equal protection under the Constitution.
The investigation is the latest federal examination of Oregon educational institutions for potential civil rights violations.
