Video shared by President Donald Trump on his Truth Social account appears to show the suspect in the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner shooting running toward the ballroom where the event was held. The footage, posted Saturday night, captures moments after Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old from Torrance, California, allegedly rushed a security checkpoint armed with a shotgun, handgun, and multiple knives.

According to law enforcement officials, Allen exchanged gunfire with officers before being tackled to the ground. A U.S. Secret Service agent was struck in their protective gear during the incident but was later released from a local hospital. Authorities have confirmed Allen is in custody and faces charges including using a firearm during a crime of violence and assault on a federal officer.

Suspect Identified as Cole Thomas Allen

Federal officials identified the suspect as Cole Thomas Allen, a 2017 graduate of the California Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. His LinkedIn profile, referenced in early reports, listed his education and professional background. Allen, who had no known criminal record and was not previously on law enforcement radar in Washington, D.C., is being held pending formal charges.

The FBI conducted an overnight search of a residence linked to Allen in Torrance, a Los Angeles suburb, where police tape was deployed and investigators collected evidence. Local officials, including the mayor of Torrance, have stated that Allen’s actions do not reflect the values of the community.
