North Dakota High School Golf Championships Conclude in Bismarck

West Fargo Sheyenne secured the team title at the North Dakota high school girls golf state tournament in Bismarck, finishing with a team total of 651 (+75) over two days of competition, the Grand Forks Herald reported. Fargo Shanley claimed second place at 665 (+89), followed by Horace in third at 676 (+100) and Mandan in fourth at 677 (+101).

Individual medalist honors went to Isabella Hale of Mandan, who carded a two-day total of 150 (+6). Alexis Fabian of Grand Forks Red River finished second at 157 (+13), while Ava Keene of West Fargo Sheyenne took third at 158 (+14). Keene was also recognized as the Senior Athlete of the Year, and Bill Kalanek of Bismarck Legacy earned Coach of the Year honors.

Bismarck Legacy and Grand Forks Red River finish fifth and sixth

The two-day tournament tested athletes across Bismarck’s courses. Behind the top four teams, Bismarck Legacy finished fifth with 681 (+105), and Grand Forks Red River placed sixth at 687 (+111). Fargo Davies followed in seventh at 701 (+125), Bismarck Century took eighth at 708 (+132), Watford City placed ninth at 714 (+138), West Fargo finished tenth at 715 (+139), Dickinson took eleventh at 734 (+158), and Minot rounded out the field in twelfth at 737 (+161).

The individual top ten featured tight competition behind Hale and Fabian. Anika Astrup of Fargo Shanley placed fourth at 160 (+16), and Rawni Roemmich of Bismarck Legacy finished fifth at 161 (+17). Sidney Elliott of Fargo Davies took sixth at 162 (+18). Ashlen Larsen of Bismarck Century and Morgan Foss of West Fargo Sheyenne tied for seventh at 163 (+19), while Harlee Olson of Watford City and Kelsey Schulz of West Fargo Sheyenne tied for ninth at 164 (+20).

Fall Sports Results Across the Region

Volleyball and soccer matches took place alongside the golf tournament across North and South Dakota. In volleyball action, Fargo Davies defeated Grand Forks Red River in four sets (25-11, 20-25, 25-15, 25-9), while Grand Forks Central outlasted Grafton in a five-set match (25-19, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10). Northern Cass also edged Thompson in five sets (25-27, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-6).

In boys soccer, East Grand Forks defeated Pelican Rapids 5-0 behind goals from Jerzey Perkerewicz, Geena Jordheim, and a hat trick from Jorja Perkerewicz. Grand Forks Red River edged Fargo Shanley 2-1 with two goals from Will Sickler. West Fargo shut out Grand Forks Central 3-0 on goals by Kalumba Kisela, Easton Thorton, and Mike Fleury at Cushman Field.

North Dakota State claims top spot in preseason basketball polls

The Summit League released its preseason basketball polls and all-conference teams for the upcoming season. For the men’s teams, North Dakota State claimed the top spot in the preseason poll with 418 points and 13 first-place votes. St. Thomas was picked second with 410 points, and South Dakota State ranked third with 396 points. Joe Sayler of South Dakota State was named the Preseason Player of the Year.
