Tragedy Strikes Turkey as Fire Claims Lives of Syrian Family During Bayram Holiday
Antalya, Turkey – A devastating fire ripped through containers housing agricultural workers in the Kepez district of Antalya, Turkey, on Friday, claiming the lives of a pregnant Syrian woman and her five young children. The tragedy occurred as Turkey began celebrating Bayram, a three-day holiday marking the end of Ramadan.
Details of the Incident
According to Antalya Governor Hulusi Sahin, the fire erupted in several containers used as living quarters for greenhouse workers. “Three containers caught fire, and we lost a mother and five children aged between four and nine,” Sahin stated to reporters at the scene . The 27-year-old mother was seven months pregnant, and her husband is currently fighting for his life .
Five others were injured in the blaze, with one sustaining life-threatening injuries . Local leader Suleyman Kaplan identified the victims as a family of Syrian agricultural workers . The fire broke out around 1:30 am in the Gaziler neighborhood .
