Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz stepped up to the Berlin stage for the 20th anniversary ceremony, where the top 100,000-euro honor went to the Bertha-von-Suttner-Schule in Mörfelden-Walldorf.
Pedagogical Restructuring Near Lake Constance
Roughly 1,300 students attend the vocational institution situated near Lake Constance. The school earned the recognition by overhauling its educational framework across eight distinct commercial and technical study programs.
Classroom instruction now pairs brief introductory phases with extended stretches of self-directed learning. Tailored materials, structured coaching, and continuous feedback define the daily routine. Students shoulder responsibility for their academic progress while faculty members maintain close, attentive guidance.
Industry Partnerships and Jury Evaluation
The competition jury pointed to the institution’s tight collaboration with local businesses and regional industry. This network bridges high academic standards with hands-on, real-world application, validating the power of vocational training pathways.
Organized by the Robert Bosch Stiftung and the Heidehof Stiftung, the German School Prize has measured educational excellence since 2006. A panel of specialists and practitioners evaluates entries across six categories: instructional quality, student performance, handling diversity, responsibility, school life and networks, and the learning school framework.
Ministerial Praise and National Honors
Baden-Württemberg’s Minister of Culture, Andreas Jung, dispatched warm congratulations to the facility. He stated that the accolade officially marks the facility as one of the top schools in Germany, calling it a unique honor for the entire school community.
At the Berlin milestone event, Hesse’s Bertha-von-Suttner-Schule—located southwest of Frankfurt in Mörfelden-Walldorf—claimed the grand prize. Five other institutions also walked away with 30,000 euros each, representing Bavaria, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, and Thuringia.
