Linnéa Myhre Criticizes Shall We Dance Broadcast Length

I mean it should be punishable to spend a whole hour on four dances, influencer Linnéa Myhre said on Instagram Story regarding the lengthy broadcast of TV 2’s «Skal vi danse».

The dance show returned to Norwegian television screens on September 26 with its new season. While 656,000 viewers tuned in to watch the season premiere featuring 13 celebrities and their professional partners, the broadcast format sparked immediate criticism on social media and podcasts over its duration and frequency of commercial breaks, Dagbladet reported.

Viewers Complain About Duration and Ad Breaks

Myhre criticized the show’s runtime and late schedule, asking whether audiences genuinely want to dedicate three and a half hours of their Saturday evening to the program. Podcast hosts Hanna Martine Slåttland Baller and Lone Nordeng echoed these frustrations on their show «Hanna & de heldige».

God, it’ll be fun, we’re looking forward to it, the duo said regarding their initial expectations, before expressing frustration that the broadcast runs from 8:00 PM until 11:15 PM.

Nordeng pointed to the 40-minute news, sports, and weather interruption in the middle of the broadcast as a major factor in the extended runtime. Baller criticized the volume of commercial breaks interrupting the entertainment, calling on the network to generate revenue through alternative means.

TV 2 Responds to Scheduling Criticism

Responding to the criticism via Dagbladet, TV 2 press chief Jan-Petter Dahl acknowledged that some viewers find the program concludes very late on Saturday nights. However, Dahl noted that the network has not received a high volume of complaints regarding the schedule, which remains identical to the previous season’s format.

Dahl pointed out that audience metrics actually increase as the evening progresses, with the final half-hour drawing the highest viewership numbers. He also emphasized that Sunday streaming numbers on TV 2 Play capture viewers who choose not to watch the late-night broadcast live.
