Broncos Battle, But Fall to Pacific 78-72
STOCKTON, Calif. – The Santa Clara Broncos fought hard on the road but ultimately fell to the pacific Tigers 78-72 on Saturday afternoon.

San Diego Men’s Basketball defeats Pacific in WCC Opener
SAN DIEGO – A dominant performance by Ty-Laur Johnson, who scored a game-high 22 points, propelled the San Diego men’s basketball team to a 66-54 victory over Pacific to open West Coast Conference (WCC) play on Sunday at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. https://usdtoreros.com/news/2023/12/31/mens-basketball-toreros-defeat-pacific-in-wcc-opener/
Johnson was efficient from the field, shooting 6-for-13 5-for-8 from three-point range, and 5-for-6 from the free-throw line. His scoring output was just one point shy of his University of San Diego career high. he also recorded six steals, tying for the second-most steals in a single game in program history, only one behind the program record.
“Today I played at my pace,” johnson said after the game, as reported by USD Athletics. “I didn’t let anybody speed me up, I took my time with my shots, and they went in.”
The Toreros (6-7, 1-0 WCC) controlled the game from the start, leading by as many as 15 points after opening with a 17-5 run. Pacific (9-5, 0-1 WCC) managed to cut the deficit to four points, 48-44, midway through the second half, but San Diego responded with an 18-10 run to close out the game and secure their third win in the last four contests.
USD head coach Steve Lavin praised his team’s resilience.”You’re starting to see some enhancement on both ends of the court,” Lavin said.”When Pacific made their run – which was certain – I was proud of our response,to be able to go on a run of our own and seal the victory down the stretch.”
Juanse Gorosito contributed 17 points, while Toneari Lane added 12 and Adrian McIntyre scored 10.Vuk Boskovic didn’t score but was a key presence on the boards, grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds for the Toreros.
