Uganda’s Kassanda District Poised for Infrastructure Boost with Myanzi-Kiboga Road Project
Residents of Myanzi, Kassanda District, Uganda, have received assurances that the long-awaited Myanzi-Kassanda-Bukuya-Kiboga road will soon be constructed. The commitment comes from both President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and newly elected Member of Parliament for Kassanda South, Hajj Abdul Bisaso.
Strategic Importance of the Road
The over 60-kilometer road stretch is a crucial link connecting the Mubende-Kasese highway to the Hoima Road . For years, communities in Kassanda District have advocated for its development, citing its potential to improve trade, mobility, and overall socio-economic progress .
Political Context and Government Commitment
During the recent election campaign, President Museveni pledged to prioritize infrastructure projects, including this road, if re-elected and if NRM candidates were elected alongside him . Following his re-election, and with the NRM securing the Kassanda South seat with Hajj Abdul Bisaso, the project is moving forward. Bisaso has already followed up with President Museveni and reports a “positive” response, anticipating commencement of work before the end of 2026 .
Addressing Past Delays
President Museveni has previously attributed delays in infrastructure development in Kassanda District to what he described as poor leadership and the election of opposition politicians . He has urged residents to support NRM leaders to facilitate the implementation of government programs . The contract for the Myanzi-Kassanda-Bukuya-Kiboga road has already been signed, with construction expected to begin soon .
Economic and Social Impact
The completed road is expected to boost commerce, ease the transportation of agricultural goods, and improve access to essential services in Kassanda and neighboring districts . It will link to existing tarmac routes, including Mityana–Mubende, Mityana–Kampala and Kampala–Hoima highways .
Hajjat Amina Mukalazi has been recognized for her advocacy on Kassanda’s development issues, including this road project .
