Indonesia’s Labmino Team Named Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Global Ambassador with AI-Powered Running Guide for the Visually Impaired
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Labmino team from the University of Indonesia (UI) has achieved a historic milestone, being selected as one of the ten global ambassadors for Samsung’s Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) program. This marks the first time Indonesia has been represented in this prestigious role, and positions the nation as one of only two countries in Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) to achieve this recognition .
RunSight: An AI-Powered Solution for Inclusive Sports
The Labmino team’s innovative solution, RunSight, is a wearable device utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) designed to assist visually impaired individuals in running independently and safely. Born from a desire to address a specific need within the visually impaired community, RunSight captures video of the surrounding environment using an RGB camera. The AI system then processes this imagery in real-time to detect running lanes and potential obstacles .
The team, comprised of Anthony Edbert Feriyanto, Kaindra Rizq Sachio, Muhammad Fazil, and Ariq Maulana Malik Ibrahim, initially explored general navigation solutions for the visually impaired. Still, through observation and interviews, they identified a critical gap: the lack of specialized guidance systems for running. “Initially we developed a general navigation concept. However, we realized that running has different challenges because it is faster and requires instant response. From there we decided to focus on track running and designed a lightweight wearable based on an RGB camera to make it comfortable to use,” explained Anthony Edbert Feriyanto .
RunSight communicates crucial information to the user through voice instructions, ensuring they remain on a safe path during their run. This technology aims to promote inclusivity in sports and empower individuals with visual impairments to participate in running with confidence and freedom .
Solve for Tomorrow: A Learning Journey for Future Leaders
Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) is more than just a competition; it’s a learning experience designed to cultivate the next generation of Indonesian leaders. The program encourages young innovators to connect empathy, technology, and social impact in their solutions . The Labmino team’s journey began with refining their ideas and developing prototypes, demonstrating the real-world relevance and impact of their innovation.
The SFT Global Ambassador program culminated in an event held in Milan, Italy, in February 2026 .
