IKEA Launches 95p Meatball Sub, a Budget Bite for UK Customers
IKEA UK is offering a new, affordable meal option: the meatball sub. Launched on March 9th, coinciding with what some call “National Meatball Day,” the sub features IKEA’s signature meatballs, lingonberry jam, and gherkins, all served in a soft bun. The price is 95p for IKEA Family members and £1.95 for other customers, potentially making it the cheapest sandwich in Britain.
A New Capture on a Classic
For the first time, IKEA is presenting its popular meatballs in a submarine sandwich format. The sub contains four meatballs, known for their beef and pork mixture, alongside lingonberry jam and gherkins. This combination of savory meatballs with sweet and tangy accompaniments offers a unique flavor profile.
Pricing and Availability
The meatball sub is available at all IKEA locations across the UK, including city center stores in Hammersmith and Oxford Street. The discounted price of 95p is exclusive to IKEA Family members, a loyalty program similar to Tesco Clubcard. The regular price for non-members is £1.95.
IKEA’s Meatball Dominance
IKEA’s meatballs are a surprisingly significant part of the company’s business. The company sells over 1.4 billion meatballs annually, exceeding the sales of popular items like the Tillslag trestle and Billy Bookcase. This number is more than double the approximately 520 million Greggs sausage rolls sold over the same period, though still less than the total number of McDonald’s burgers sold in the UK each year.
A Limited-Time Offer
According to Good Housekeeping, the meatball sub is a limited-time launch, running from March 9th to April 30th. IKEA has not confirmed whether the sub will become a permanent menu item.
IKEA Family Benefits
The IKEA Family program offers members exclusive discounts and benefits, including the reduced price on the meatball sub. Membership is free.
