Ukrainian Drone Regiment Achieves Significant Losses for Russian Forces
Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces report inflicting over 900 casualties on Russian troops along a 100-kilometer front in the Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions over a day and a half. The successes are attributed to the 411th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade, nicknamed “Hawks,” and supporting drone units.
Recent Operations and Reported Casualties
Major Robert “Madyar” Brody, Commander of the Unmanned Systems Forces, announced on social media that more than 900 Russian soldiers were killed or wounded between Rodinskoye and Gulyaipole. The 411th Brigade’s press service clarified to Ukrainskaya Pravda that the figure represents combined killed and wounded personnel.
Weather and Offensive Timing
The recent increase in Russian assault operations is linked to a change in weather conditions on March 17-18, coinciding with the anticipated start of Russia’s spring-summer campaign. According to Commander Brody, Russian forces attempted to leverage poor visibility, but this effort was unsuccessful due to the effectiveness of Ukrainian drone reconnaissance and counter-measures.
Unit Background: The 411th Separate Unmanned Systems Brigade
The 411th Unmanned Systems Brigade, as well known as “Hawks” (MUN A4742), is a regiment-level unit within the Unmanned Systems Forces command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Established as a battalion in February 2022 following the full-scale Russian invasion, it was expanded to a regiment in December 2024.
Originally part of the Territorial Defense Forces, the unit transitioned to the Ground Forces, briefly serving within the 17th Army Corps, before being integrated into the central Unmanned Systems Command in November 2025. This transition was driven by the unit’s innovative training practices and expertise in drone warfare.
The brigade has been actively involved in combat operations across multiple regions, including Kursk, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson. It also played a role in the 2022 Kherson counteroffensive. The 411th Regiment developed the “Tower” platform for collecting, decrypting, and analyzing information and established the “Hawks Drone Camp,” a training facility for aerial reconnaissance specialists and FPV drone pilots.
Broader Context of Increased Clashes
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported 286 military clashes on March 17, indicating a significant increase in enemy assaults and attacks. The Ministry of Defense reported that the enemy suffered its largest daily losses of the war on that date, with 1,710 casualties (killed and wounded).
Commander Brody emphasized the continued resistance, stating, “We are holding the line, there will be a heavy and prolonged fight in the rest of March.”
