Ukrainian military intelligence disabled two Russian landing ships and a radar station in Sevastopol Bay during a drone strike on the night of April 18–19, 2026.

The operation, conducted by the HUR’s “Ghosts” special unit, targeted the Project 775 “Yamal” and Project 1171 “Nikolay Filchenkov” vessels while they were docked in the occupied Crimea port. Both ships were taken out of action, according to HUR.

The “Yamal,” commissioned in 1988, is 112.5 meters long and can carry up to 500 tons of cargo, including armored vehicles and troops. Its estimated value exceeds $80 million.

The “Nikolay Filchenkov,” launched in 1975, has a displacement of up to 1,000 tons, allowing it to transport dozens of armored units and a large contingent of marines. HUR estimates its worth at over $70 million.

In addition to the ships, Ukrainian forces destroyed the Russian “Podlet-K1” radar complex in Sevastopol, valued at approximately $5 million.

The combined material loss to the Russian Black Sea Fleet exceeds $155 million, based on HUR’s assessments.

This strike follows a series of Ukrainian attacks on Russian naval assets in Crimea. On April 18, Ukraine’s SBU reported damaging three Russian warships — the “Yamal,” “Azov,” and an unidentified vessel — along with radar and logistics infrastructure.

SBU drones also struck the “Delfin” communications antenna array, the “MR-10M1 Mism-M1” radar system, and fuel storage tanks at the Yugtorsan oil depot on the same day.

The HUR emphasized that the “Ghosts” unit continues to conduct precision strikes behind enemy lines, using domestically produced drones to target high-value military assets.

Later on April 19, Ukrainian forces launched a separate rocket attack on the “Atlant Aero” factory in Taganrog using Neptune missiles. The strike damaged a facility producing “Mолния” drones and components for the “Orion” UAV, triggering a fire at the plant, as reported by RBC-Ukraine.

Context: The “Yamal” and “Nikolay Filchenkov” have been repeatedly used to transport equipment and personnel to frontline zones in southern Ukraine, making their disablement a direct blow to Russian logistics capacity.

What type of drones were used in the Sevastopol strike?

The sources do not specify the exact model or type of drones employed by the HUR’s “Ghosts” unit in the April 18–19 operation.

Were there any casualties among Russian personnel during the attack?

None of the three sources mention casualties, injuries, or loss of life resulting from the drone strikes on the ships or radar station.
