University of Louisiana at Lafayette Launches Online Bachelor of Science in Psychology

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) is expanding access to its psychology program with the launch of a fully online Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree, beginning with enrollment for the Fall 2026 semester. The latest program mirrors the curriculum of the on-campus general psychology degree, providing students with a flexible pathway to study human behavior, research methodologies, and applied psychology.

Balancing Flexibility and Rigor

Whitney Storey, senior instructor and program coordinator for the online psychology program, emphasized the program’s design. “We designed a flexible program that does not sacrifice rigor so students can gain the analytical and research skills needed to begin their careers or advance into graduate study,” Storey said. She further noted that faculty engagement will ensure a curriculum that is both broad in scope and focused on individual career aspirations.

Growing Demand for Psychology Professionals

The launch of the online program comes at a time of increasing demand for professionals in community and social service fields. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in these areas is projected to grow faster than the national average through 2034, with over 300,000 annual job openings. Expanding Online Learning Opportunities at UL Lafayette

The online bachelor’s in psychology is the third program within UL Lafayette’s College of Liberal Arts to be offered in an online format. Criminal justice and sociology programs were previously launched with online options. Dr. Ani Kokobobo, dean of the College of Liberal Arts, highlighted the university’s commitment to accessibility. “There’s a demand among students who previously attended UL Lafayette or another university to employ their college credits and finish their degrees,” Kokobobo said. “For those students, online coursework provides that opportunity.”
