Ulster Rugby’s European Rugby Challenge Cup fixture against the Toyota Cheetahs has been postponed following an inspection that deemed the pitch at s’Hertogenbosch, netherlands, unplayable. the decision comes as a result of sustained freezing temperatures across the region.
Referee Kevin Bradley made the call on Saturday afternoon, determining that player safety was compromised by the frozen pitch conditions. The match was initially scheduled to be played at the NRCA Stadium in Amsterdam but was relocated to the Dukes Rugby’s home ground in s’Hertogenbosch on Friday as a contingency plan. Despite the change of venue, the conditions proved unsuitable for play.
European Professional Club Rugby (EPCR) released a statement confirming the postponement, stating that the game is off until further notice. The EPCR Board Crisis Management group will convene to determine the next steps regarding rescheduling the fixture.
The ongoing severe cold snap in the Netherlands has presented significant challenges to the match organizers. The postponement underscores the impact of adverse weather conditions on professional sports events.
