ST. LOUIS, Missouri – Upper Iowa women’s basketball (7-6, 3-2 GLVC) had its worst shooting day in GLVC play against Missouri-St. louis (10-3, 4-1 GLVC) on Saturday afternoon, falling 68-47. The Peacocks shot 28.1% from the field and 20% from beyond the arc, while the Tritons shot 48.3% from the field and 33.3% from three.
Upper Iowa struggled to find any rhythm offensively, scoring just 12 points in the first quarter and 11 in the second. Missouri-St. Louis capitalized, building a 36-23 led at halftime. The second half saw continued struggles for the Peacocks,as they were outscored 32-24.
Emily Lund led Upper Iowa with 12 points and 7 rebounds. Lydia Haack added 10 points. The Tritons were led by Kiara Stewart with 17 points.
upper Iowa will look to bounce back on Thursday, January 8th, at 5 p.m. against the University of Indianapolis.

upper Iowa Peacocks Fall to Missouri-St. Louis Tritons 72-50
ST. LOUIS, MO – the Upper Iowa University (UIU) women’s basketball team suffered a 72-50 defeat against the Missouri-st.Louis (UMSL) Tritons on Saturday,December 30,2023. UMSL dominated the game, especially in the paint and on the boards, leading to a 22-point victory.
UMSL established control early, leading by as many as seven points in the first quarter after a 6-0 run. UIU responded with a 6-0 run of their own, fueled by two putback buckets from Kendyl Lodermeier, closing the gap to 17-14 at the end of the first quarter. Ellie Foster opened the second quarter with a three-pointer, tying the game at 17-17.However, UMSL quickly regained momentum, going on a important run.
The Tritons held the Peacocks scoreless for over five minutes, and capitalized on UIU’s struggles from the field. Upper Iowa shot just 1-of-10 from the field during a seven-minute stretch in the first half, committing two turnovers as UMSL outscored them 16-2. UIU finished the first half shooting 13-of-36 (36.1%) from the field.
UMSL continued its strong performance in the second half, outscoring Upper Iowa 30-23 and making 12 field goals to UIU’s six.The Tritons’ largest lead of the game, 22 points, ultimately determined the final margin.
Ellie Foster led the Peacocks with 11 points, six rebounds, and two steals, shooting 66.7% (2-of-3) from three-point range and 50% (4-of-8) overall. Sydnee Nelson added 10 points, six rebounds, and an assist, shooting 60% (3-of-5) from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Kendyl Lodermeier contributed eight points, five rebounds, and two blocks. Ava Privet scored seven points, shooting 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while Lindsey Davis added six points. Bryar Duwe had four points and six boards, and Kenzie Deaton scored four points with three rebounds.
Mara Rieder, the GLVC’s leading scorer, led the Tritons with a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Morgan Ramthun also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. UMSL dominated the boards,outrebounding UIU 51-36,including a 14-7 advantage on the offensive glass. The Tritons scored 46 of their 72 points in the paint, despite only making two three-pointers.UMSL shot 29-of-69 (42%) from the field.
Upper Iowa will return home to fayette, Iowa, to face UIndy on Thursday, January 4th at 5 p.m. and Lewis (Ill.) on Saturday,January 6th at 1 p.m. in Dorman Memorial Gymnasium.
