UND Men’s Hockey Team Awaits NCAA Tournament Assignment
Grand Forks, ND – The University of North Dakota (UND) men’s hockey team will learn its fate in the NCAA tournament at 2 p.m. CT on Sunday, March 22, 2026, during the selection show broadcast on ESPNU.1
Regional Possibilities
With UND not hosting a regional this season, the NCAA Committee has flexibility in assigning the Fighting Hawks to one of four potential sites: Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Loveland, Colorado; Albany, Novel York; or Worcester, Massachusetts.1 However, all indications suggest Sioux Falls as the most likely destination.1
Tournament Seeding and Opponent
UND (27-9-1) has secured a No. 1 seed in the tournament and will be the No. 2 overall seed.1 As a No. 1 seed, the Fighting Hawks will face a No. 4 seed in the first round.1 Potential No. 4 seeds include UMass, UConn, St. Thomas, and the champion of Atlantic Hockey (either Bentley or Sacred Heart).1
Return to the NCAA Tournament
This year’s tournament appearance marks UND’s return after missing the event last year.1
Other No. 1 Seeds
Joining UND as No. 1 seeds in other regionals are Michigan (No. 1 overall), Michigan State (No. 3 overall), and Western Michigan (No. 4 overall).1 Denver is the only host school to qualify and will be a No. 2 seed, automatically placed in Loveland, Colorado.1 The other regional sites are Albany, New York, and Worcester, Massachusetts.1
