Unemployment in Austria continued its upward trend in November, reaching a new high. The number of registered unemployed individuals increased, signaling a cooling labor market.

Unemployment Rises Across Austria in November

The federal states of Lower Austria (up 6.9 percent) and Styria (5.7 percent) were particularly affected by the renewed increase in unemployment, where companies like voestalpine or Wollsdorf Leather recently announced job cuts.The numbers also rose relatively strongly in Burgenland (up 4.9 percent) and Tyrol (up 4 percent), less so in Upper Austria (up 3.9 percent), Salzburg (up 3.7 percent), Vorarlberg (up 3.3 percent), and Vienna (up 3 percent). As in the previous month, Carinthia stood out positively, with only a 0.7 percent increase – that is 144 people.
