The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) operation in Mexico has launched a grant competition to fund community football initiatives supporting refugees and host populations, according to an official announcement by UNHCR México.
Grant Details and Funding Amounts
Selected proposals will receive up to $4,000 USD alongside technical accompaniment, according to UNHCR México. The grant initiative, titled “De regreso en el juego – Pertenecer a través del fútbol” (Back in the Game – Belonging Through Football), aims to promote inclusion, protection, and social cohesion through community football activities.
Projects must be implemented between October and December 2026. Eligible organizations, collectives, and initiatives led by refugees and host communities must operate within designated target locations: Ciudad de México, Guadalajara, Monterrey, or Aguascalientes, as stated by UNHCR México.
Application Guidelines and Deadlines
Applicants must submit their proposals by completing and attaching the conceptual note format (“NOTA CONCEPTUAL”) and emailing it to mexico@unhcr.org. The strict submission deadline is September 13, 2026, at 23:00 hours (Mexico City time), according to UNHCR México.
To assist prospective applicants, UNHCR México will host a virtual information session on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. (Mexico City time). Organizations interested in attending the virtual briefing must request access by emailing mexico@unhcr.org prior to Tuesday, September 8.
