UNLV Softball Earns Run-Rule Victory Over Utah Tech, Head Coach Kristie Fox Reaches Milestone

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV softball team defeated Utah Tech 11-3 in five innings on Tuesday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium.

How It Went Down

Utah Tech took an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. UNLV quickly responded with four runs in the bottom half of the first, fueled by two-run singles from Charelle Aki and Taryn Calderon, to seize a 4-2 lead.

The second inning was scoreless for both teams. In the bottom of the third, Diamond Sefe hit a solo home run over the left field wall, extending the Rebels’ lead to 5-2. UNLV added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth, capitalizing on two Utah Tech errors, to increase their advantage to 10-2. Sefe hit another two-run home run in the fourth inning.

Utah Tech scored one run in the top of the fifth on an RBI triple, making the score 10-3. In the bottom of the fifth, with two outs, Natalie Turner was hit by a pitch. Bri Williams then hit a double to right center, scoring Turner and securing the 11-3 run-rule victory.

Other Notes

• With the win over Utah Tech, head coach Kristie Fox achieved her 250th win at UNLV, becoming only the second head coach in program history to reach this milestone.
• Gwyn Burnett, Charelle Aki, Taryn Calderon, and Lyla Gonzalez each recorded hits for UNLV.
• Aki and Calderon both had two RBI.
• Turner recorded the team’s only walk of the day.
• Diamond Sefe is currently on a four-game hitting streak and has reached base in seven consecutive games.
• Bri Williams has extended her reached base streak to 17 consecutive games.
