UNT Women’s Tennis Falls to Tulane, Eyes Home Stand

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The University of North Texas women’s tennis team saw its six-match win streak come to an end on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to Tulane at the Hoover Met Tennis Center.

The six consecutive wins marked a recent high under head coach Amanda Stone and was the longest since UNT also won six straight in 2013, en route to the Conference USA Tournament title and their last appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

With the loss, North Texas drops to 9-5 overall this season, while Tulane improves to 7-6 with the win.

Doubles Play Sets the Tone

Tulane secured the doubles point, winning 6-1 at line one and 6-4 at line two.

Singles Matches Competitive Despite Final Score

In singles play, the Mean Green were highly competitive, with leads at lines one, three, and four being abandoned before completion when Tulane reached the decisive fourth point.

Lou Chalard took the first set at line one in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (9-7). Pia Petelinsek split sets 6-0, 2-6 and held a 4-1 advantage at line three when her match was halted. Marina Adati was closest to securing a point, winning her first set 7-5 and leading 5-1 in the second at line four before Tulane closed out the match.

Tulane ultimately clinched the victory with wins at lines two, five, and six.

Looking Ahead: Home Match Stretch

UNT will return to action Wednesday to begin a stretch of five consecutive home matches. The Mean Green will host Butler at 9:00 AM, followed by a match against Oral Roberts at 4:00 PM on March 11th, both at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
