Mexico Entry Requirements for Travelers

You should know this if you enter teh country with food and pets.

The United states Embassy in Mexico issued an alert to travelers entering Mexico, especially Mexican-Americans, so that they review the re-entry policies if they transport gifts, merchandise or pets and comply with the immigration and customs requirements established by the Mexican authorities. Travelers must remove weapons and ammunition, as entry is prohibited.

Tax Franchise to Enter Merchandise into Mexico

The Tax Franchise is the benefit that allows you to introduce goods without paying taxes. The amounts vary depending on the means of transportation and the region of origin. The amounts are:

By road:

  • $500 dollars
  • The rest of the year it is $300 dollars.

By plane or ship:

  • $500 dollars throughout the year.

Residents of the border strip:

  • Limit is $150 dollars

Passengers from that region:

They can accumulate up to $300 dollars.

The Tax Franchise does not include alcoholic beverages, tobacco, or automotive fuel additional to the vehicle’s tank.
