US Won’t Follow Israel in Recognizing Somaliland

Jakarta – President of the United States Donald Trump stated his government will not recognize the sovereignty of Somaliland.

he shared this in an interview with the New York Post, published Friday (December 26) local time. This came after Israeli Prime Minister and Trump’s key ally, Benjamin Netanyahu, announced Israel would be the first country to recognize Somaliland.

“No,” the president responded when the New York Post questioned US recognition of Somaliland. He then asked, “does anyone really know what Somaliland is?” according to the AFP news agency on Saturday (December 27, 2025).
