Oklahoma Declares State of Emergency After Deadly Tornado

A mother and daughter were tragically killed in Major County, Oklahoma, when a tornado struck their vehicle on Thursday night. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt announced the deaths on X (formerly Twitter) and declared a state of emergency in several counties to mobilize support and resources for affected areas. According to Fox 8 Cleveland, six people have died across both states.

Michigan Hit by Multiple Tornadoes, Three Deaths Confirmed

In Michigan, a tornado touched down near Union City in Branch County on Friday, claiming the lives of three individuals and injuring 12 others. The Branch County Sheriff’s Office stated their thoughts were with those who had lost family, friends, and property. Another tornado reportedly struck Cass County, approximately 50 miles west of Union City, resulting in one fatality and leaving over 500 people without power.

Ongoing Rescue and Recovery Efforts

As of Saturday, rescue teams were actively searching for survivors amidst the rubble, while authorities initiated the challenging task of clearing debris. State officials reported that disaster relief workers were conducting door-to-door outreach in the Union City and Three Rivers areas, providing meals and essential assistance to those affected.

State of Emergency Declared in Michigan

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer activated the state’s emergency operations center to coordinate a comprehensive response to the severe weather in southwestern Michigan. The National Weather Service (NWS) indicated that three distinct tornadoes likely touched down in Michigan, with teams dispatched to assess the damage and confirm the findings.

Severe Weather Threat Continues

The NWS has issued forecasts predicting continued strong storms and flash flood risks stretching from the Great Lakes region to Texas. Tornado season typically occurs in the spring in these areas, with tornadoes forming rapidly and requiring individuals to seek shelter with little warning.
