US strikes in Yemen after Houthi attacks on red Sea shipping

The United States has launched strikes against Houthi targets in Yemen, following repeated attacks by the Iranian-backed group on commercial ships in the Red Sea.The attacks are a response to the disruption of vital shipping lanes and escalating tensions in the region.

The US military confirmed that strikes targeted Houthi radar systems and missile launch sites. The Houthis claim their attacks are in solidarity wiht Palestinians in Gaza, but the US and its allies argue they are endangering international trade and maritime security.

The Red Sea is a crucial route for global commerce, and the Houthi attacks have forced many shipping companies to reroute their vessels around Africa, adding significant time and cost to deliveries. Several countries have called for de-escalation and a diplomatic solution to the crisis, but the situation remains volatile.

This is not the first time the US has taken military action against the Houthis. However, the recent strikes represent a significant escalation in response to the ongoing attacks on shipping. The international community is closely monitoring the situation, fearing a wider conflict in the Middle East.

US Launches Retaliatory strikes in Syria

The United States military conducted strikes against Islamic State (IS) targets in Syria last night, according to a statement from the US government. This action comes in response to a recent attack in central Syria that claimed the lives of American service members.

Defense Minister Hegseth explained that the strikes were a direct response to the attack last weekend. An American interpreter and two soldiers were killed, and three others were injured in the incident. Hegseth clarified, “This isn’t the start of a war, but an act of revenge,” as he posted on X.

The Pentagon reported that the operation involved strikes on over seventy targets in central Syria, near Raqqa and Deir ez Zor. These targets included IS personnel and weapons storage facilities. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based monitoring group, indicated that a significant IS leader and several militants were killed in the strikes.

The attack utilized a combination of fighter planes, helicopters, and ground-launched rockets. Reports also suggest that Jordan provided support during the operation.
