The group launched attacks against Saudi targets between 1987 and 1989. Following its implication in the 1996 Khobar Towers bombing, it was outlawed in Saudi Arabia. Although largely inactive since 1989, the organization was designated a terrorist organization by the Saudi government in 2014. Hezbollah Al-Hejaz was part of Iran’s broader policy of “exporting the Islamic Revolution.”
