Natchez Set to Host State Gymnastics Championship, Boosting Local Economy

Natchez, Mississippi, is preparing to welcome over 700 young gymnasts and an estimated 1,400 visitors for the state-level USA Gymnastics meet at the Natchez Convention Center from March 19-22, 2026. The event, featuring athletes from 20 Mississippi clubs affiliated with USA Gymnastics, is anticipated to provide a significant economic boost to the city.

Competition Details

The competition will showcase gymnasts aged 5 through 18, along with 91 coaches and judges. Participants have qualified based on achieving a specific all-around score, with potential winners advancing to regional competitions. The highest level of competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 21, at 11:30 a.m. At the convention center.

Economic Impact

Ryan Richardson, event coordinator at the Natchez Convention Center, highlighted the event’s potential economic benefits. “Counting parents and other supporters, the event is expected to bring more than 1,400 to the city. And they will be here the entire weekend, and meals are on their own,” Richardson stated. The influx of visitors is expected to support local businesses as attendees utilize accommodations and dining options.

Natchez Gymnastics and Cheerleading, established in the 1970s as Natchez Gymnastics Association, offers a range of programs for various skill levels. Founded by John Floyd and later led by Kim Strawbridge, the organization provides classes in preschool gymnastics, cheerleading, tumbling, and private lessons Natchez Gymnastics and Cheerleading. Strawbridge, a long-time coach, holds certifications in safety and preschool gymnastics development and is a member of USA Gymnastics.
