USA Women’s Sevens Eagles Secure Bronze in Vancouver, Set Sights on New York
The USA Women’s Sevens Eagles clinched a bronze medal at the HSBC SVNS Vancouver tournament on March 8, 2026, defeating France 35-21 in a thrilling 3rd Place Play-Off. This victory marks a significant step forward for the team, ending a streak of fourth-place finishes and achieving their goal of reaching the podium in Vancouver.
Dominant Start and Pool Play
The Eagles began the tournament with a commanding 40-7 victory over Canada, highlighted by a hat-trick from Su Adegoke. Kristi Kirshe, Kaylen Thomas, and Autumn Czaplicki also contributed tries, with conversions from Ashley Cowdrey and Sariah Ibarra.
Their second match saw a hard-fought 26-19 win against Fiji. Adegoke opened the scoring, and tries from Sammy Sullivan, Sariah Ibarra, and Sarah Levy secured the victory.
The final pool play match against Australia proved more challenging, resulting in a 7-22 loss. Sullivan scored the lone try for the USA.
Semi-Final Heartbreak and Bronze Medal Triumph
In the Cup Semi-Final, the USA faced New Zealand, falling short in a close contest 12-19. Tries from Kaylen Thomas and Sarah Levy kept the match within reach, but the Black Ferns proved too strong.
The Eagles rebounded strongly in the 3rd Place Play-Off against France. Ariana Ramsey opened the scoring, and a brace of tries from Sammy Sullivan, along with scores from Kaylen Thomas (two tries), secured a 35-21 victory. Conversions were added by Sariah Ibarra and Tahna Wilfley.
Looking Ahead to New York
Following the bronze medal win, the USA Women’s Eagles will return to home soil for the final stop of the HSBC SVNS Series in New York City.
