USC Beach Volleyball Dominates Battle for LA, Sweeps Concordia After Defeating Cal Poly

LOS ANGELES — The No. 4 USC Trojans continued their strong start to the beach volleyball season, defeating No. 3 Cal Poly 4-1 on Saturday before sweeping Concordia University Irvine 5-0 at Merle Norman Stadium during the Battle for LA tournament. USC now holds an 8-2 record on the season.

Trojans Top Cal Poly in Competitive Match

USC secured a 4-0 lead against Cal Poly before the Mustangs managed to secure a single point. The lone victory for Cal Poly came from the No. 1 pair of Ella Connor and Erin Inskeep, who defeated USC’s Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood in a closely contested match, 30-28, 21-11.1

Key victories for USC included a 21-18, 21-17 win by Kaileigh Truslow and Kerry Keefe at No. 4, and a hard-fought 21-14, 34-32 victory by Ashley Pater and Kennedy Coakley at No. 2.2 Alana Embry and Quincy Stephens added a win at No. 3 (21-19, 21-17), and Kyra Zaengle and Calinda Kok sealed the dual at No. 5 (21-17, 21-12).2

USC Sweeps Concordia Irvine

In the afternoon match, USC demonstrated its dominance with a clean sweep of Concordia Irvine, winning all five courts in straight sets.2 Henson and Wood rebounded with a 21-9, 21-15 victory at No. 1, whereas Pater and Coakley continued their success with a 22-20, 21-10 win at No. 2.2

Macy Bolyard and Madison Goellner secured a 21-15, 21-15 win at No. 3, and Bella Satterwhite and Kerry Keefe handled the No. 4 spot with a 21-15, 21-15 victory.2 Zaengle and Kok completed the sweep at No. 5 with a dominant 21-7, 21-14 performance.2

Next Up for the Trojans

USC will continue its homestand, facing Stetson and CSUN on Tuesday.3 Cal Poly, now 6-2 on the season, will travel to Conway, South Carolina for the Chanticleer Challenge on March 6-7, where they will compete against Georgia State, Coastal Carolina, Tulane, and FAU.1
