UT Arlington Women’s Tennis Defeats Abilene Christian 5-2

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women’s tennis team secured a 5-2 victory over the Abilene Christian Wildcats in their first of two regular season matchups. This win marks the Mavericks’ fourth of the season, improving their record to 4-10, and represents a positive trend with two wins in their last four dual matches after a 2-8 start to the spring season.

Key Performances

Freshman Tasnime Ahamout played a pivotal role in UTA’s success, competing on singles Court 5 for the first time this spring. She defeated ACU’s Victoria Correa in a closely contested match, 7-5, 7-5. Ahamout also teamed up with Natalia Gonzalez to win their doubles match on Court 2.

Diana Kaibara contributed with a straight-set victory over Maria Cascos on Court 2 (6-4, 6-2). Flora Farkaslaki also secured a win on Court 6, defeating Elsa Luthar (6-4, 1-6, 7-5).

Match Breakdown

The Mavericks started strong by winning the doubles point, thanks to victories from Ahamout/Gonzalez on Court 2 (6-2) and Farkaslaki/Kaibara on Court 3 (6-1).

In singles play, Masha Vrsalovic of ACU defeated Elizaveta Mladentseva on Court 1 (6-2, 6-3). However, Kaibara and Ahamout quickly responded with their wins, putting UTA ahead 3-1.

Despite ACU’s Alice Klinteby winning on Court 4 against Natalia Gonzalez (1-6, 6-3, 6-4) to narrow the gap to 3-2, Sofia Selle clinched the match for the Mavericks with a comeback victory on Court 3, defeating Angela Del Campo 0-6, 6-3, 6-4.
