Utah State Men’s Tennis Falls to Florida Atlantic in Close Match
BOCA RATON, Florida – In a tightly contested match, the Utah State men’s tennis team suffered a 4-3 defeat against Florida Atlantic on Tuesday at the Kimberly V. Strauss Tennis Center. The Aggies now hold a 7-5 record on the season.
Doubles Play Sets the Tone
Utah State started strong, securing the doubles point with victories at the top two positions. Sophomore Xavier Calvelo and freshman Jakub Medved dominated their match, winning 6-0 against Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera of Florida Atlantic. After Florida Atlantic won at the third doubles position, senior Jean-Baptiste Badon and sophomore Dmitri Goubin clinched the doubles point for the Aggies with a 7-6 (1) victory over Segundo Goity and Simon Myslivec.
Singles Competition Sees FAU Comeback
Florida Atlantic began to rally in singles play, tying the match with a win at the fourth court. Calvelo secured a victory for Utah State at No. 2 singles when his opponent, Segundo Goity, retired while Calvelo was ahead 7-6 (5), 4-2. Goubin added another point for USU, winning 6-1, 7-5 at the sixth position, bringing the score to 3-1 in favor of Utah State.
However, Florida Atlantic responded with wins in the remaining three matches, including two three-set battles, to ultimately secure the 4-3 team victory.

Next Up for the Aggies
Utah State will return to the Sports Academy &. Racquet Club to begin Mountain West play with a two-match home stand. The Aggies will host UNLV on Friday, March 20, at 3 p.m. (MT), before facing Nevada on Sunday, March 22, at 10 a.m. (MT).
